Enugu gov’t trains presidents, secretaries of cooperatives

The Enugu State Government on Wednesday held a one-day workshop for presidents and secretaries of cooperative societies in Enugu State.

The workshop with the theme, “Human Empowerment: the Power of Cooperatives as Panacea
For Poverty and Multifarious Economic Challenges”, had the likes of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Financial Management, Professor Obiamaka Egbo, represented by Bar. Chibuzor Crownwell; former Director of Cooperative, Enugu State, Dr. Festus Ezema, and the former principal, Enugu State Cooperative College, Mr. B C Udechukwu as the facilitators who took the participants in lectures such as ‘Leadership Roles and Its Application in Cooperative Societies’, ‘Concise Meaning of Cooperatives’ and ‘Functions/Duties of Presidents and Secretaries of Cooperative Societies’, as well as the topic, ‘Choosing and Operating a Cooperative Business’.

The Commissioner, Enugu State Ministry of Human Capital Development and Poverty Eradication, Honourable Dr. Malachy Agbo, who declared the workshop open, earlier in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, for his vision and commitment to better the lives of Ndi Enugu, explaining that the aim of the workshop was to equip presidents and secretaries of cooperative societies in the state with necessary knowledge, skills and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of their organizations.

The cooperative model, therefore, he said, was to promote inclusiveness, equality and sustainable development, making it an effective tool for poverty alleviation and community building.

Dr. Agbo further appealed to the participants to use the workshop as a platform to connect with their peers, exchange ideas and explore partnerships.

The Commissioner said he was delighted by the high turnout of the participants, urging them to make the most of the opportunity afforded them by the workshop for the betterment of their organizations and communities.

He thanked the partners and sponsors for their support in organizing the workshop.

The highlight of the event was the handing over of certificates of participation to all cooperative societies represented at the occasion.

Engr. Ukwu Nwachukwu president from SEDI Enugu Sweet-End Micro Finance Cooperative Society Limited, in his vote of thanks, on behalf of the participants, appreciated the organisers for the remarkably outstanding workshop and asked for frequency of such programmes in the nearest future.
