There was jubilation among the Ogbete Main Market’s traders and shoppers as the Peter Mbah Support Group, PMSG, led by its coordinator, Mr. Uche Mmamel, and the Solidarity Alliance for Peter Mbah, SAPM, led by a member of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor, embarked on voter’s education and sensitization tour in the market over the weekend.
The PMSG and SAPM numbering in their hundreds trooped out en masse, charging traders to seize the opportunity of the voter’s registration extension by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register and obtain their voter’s card ahead of the 2023 general elections.
While moving from shop to shop, the support groups informed the jubilant market men and women that more INEC personnel had been deployed to Omata in Ogbete market to accommodate more people and solve the glitches previously being experienced by registrants.
Meanwhile there were mammoth crowds from the market that joined the support groups as a show of solidarity and support for Barr. Peter Mbah’s governorship ambition ahead of the election in 2023.
Addressing the teeming crowds at the main market, Mr. Mmamel who spoke on behalf of the groups said they had decided to visit Ogbete market because of its strategic population and to remind them of the importance of registering for their PVCs as that would be the only way they could exercise their franchise in the forthcoming elections.
He further charged them to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that their entire households acquired their voter’s cards. According to him, the support groups had not visited for political campaigns or party activities as it was not yet time, but to rally people around in order to utilize the opportunity presented by various bodies in making sure enough INEC manpower and logistics are available to register them.
Receiving the support groups at his Omata Ogbete office, the Caretaker Chairman of Ogbete Main Market, Hon. Comas Ezeugwu, expressed delight at the efforts of the groups, adding that he had been partnering and complementing the efforts of the authority by making sure traders at the market have a glitch-free registration exercise.
Ezeugwu who used the opportunity to extol the outstanding administration of the state governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, stated that the governor has enthroned good governance, peace and security in the state. According to him, the ease of doing business in Ogbete market was second to none. Noting that Enugu State under Ugwuanyi has recorded massive infrastructural and human capital development, the chairman reiterated commitment to support PDP candidates as the party has always lived up to expectations.
Expressing satisfaction at the level of turnout by traders, Ezeugwu further used the occasion to call on those yet to register for their PVC to make themselves available for the registration exercise from Tuesday to Friday every week at Omata, Ogbete market before the deadline given by the INEC
